Give my leo a bath?

tim5580 Oct 13, 2004 03:45 PM

I was feeding my gecko a mealworm last night and he bit it and the insides of it popped out and got on top of his head. He licked most of it off but it is still on the top of his head. Should I worry about getting it off him? I was going to try water on a paper towel, but I don't think he'd like that too much. I don't want him getting an infection or some sores.

It rubs the lotion on it's skin.
Bleach, good to clean tanks. Ammonia, good to clean tanks. Bleach mixed with Ammonia, good to make ammonium chloride gas to kill you while your cleaning tanks.

Do not actually give him a bath. Some larger lizards need to occasionally bathe in shallow pools. Just take a damp paper towel and wipe him down. He'll be fine, don't be hesistant to handle your leo! People who have skittish reptiles are always wondering why their reptiles do not respond well to them. The more frequently you handle your leo the quicker and more readily he will become accustomed to you. Try taking him out for about five minutes a day(Except right before feeding time and when he is shedding). Eventually you might get to the point where you can just put your hand in the cage and he might crawl up it on his own. Many of mine do this. So yeah, a damp paper towel should do the trick.

Yeah I take it out almost every night, it won't come up to my hand yet in the cage, but when hes out he walks over to it all the time and doens't run or anything (unless I sneeze then he runs away).

Last year one of our Loe's was sick - had an eye infection. The vet told us to wrap her in a warm moist washcloth a couple of time a day (for dehydration). Well, she still loves to snuggle in the washcloth once or twice a week! So, give it a try and just wipe the top of her head.
