Across The Room

Walker360 Oct 13, 2004 04:04 PM

I bought a separate cage for my male chameleon, and now I keep it about 12 feet away from the cage with the female. Can they still see each other? And if they can, is it a bad thing?

Thanks.

If the animal is right across the room, then yes, they can see each other. chameleons have no problem seeing stuff 12 feet away. It is not necessarily a cause to sound the alarms, since chameleons understand the conept of barriers. but take into consideration that privacy/solidarity is a big issue for a chameleon. They may eventually get used to it, but i'd rather not "tempt" the male that way. Some males will go all out to try and reach that female, they will be pacing the cage floor back and forth and sometimes they'd try so hard to get out, they will cause nose rubs themselves. If i had not space and had to put an animal acroos the room from each other, i'd use two females instead of a MAle/Female or Male/Male combination.

just make a black construction paper divider and tape it to the outside of one of the cgaes, or put them right nextto eachother so that it will hold up the divider. That is what I do.
