Cage size

ta2edskin Oct 13, 2004 05:44 PM

I was wondering what size cage would be good for a 5 month old veiled? The cage I have him in now is 18"w x 20"h x 12"d. If this cage is good for him how long will he be ok in this tank. I just got him last sat at the tinley park show. Thanks Steve

The quick answer would be the cage is too small. My veiled is 6 months old in a 4x2x2 and I switched him at 4 ½ months to this cage. The cage before was 24x12x24 – so a bit bigger then the one you have now. I couldn’t imagine him back in his old cage. Depending on the chams size that cage MAY work for a little while, but sooner then later you will need a bigger cage. Oh, and when you say “tank”, are you referring to an aquarium? That cham really should be in an all screen enclosure if it isn’t already.

reptariums and aluminum both have their drawbacks. if you have the money i would say aluminum. heres an article comparing the two. http://www.screameleons.com/portal/alias__Screameleons/lang__en-US/tabID__3391/DesktopDefault.aspx

I agree, they both have thir drawbacks. I would go with the aluminum screened cage and not the reptarium though. I have seen the reptatiums up close and feel that they are harder to see in. If the mesh gets damashed from crix or whatever, it would be difficult to replace. The all aluminum screened cages are easier to replace the sides if a hole develops.
