11 weeks already sick Beardie

joeyq Oct 13, 2004 05:56 PM

My beardie is sick now for 11 weeks, coccidia and flagelets.
We have to hand feed him because he don't eat out of himself.
He was already twice on albon and metronindazole and still has the parasites.
He is 5 1/2 months old and is 12 inches long and weight 80 g.
Has anybody had this experience and what schould I do ,continue with the medication, and for how long?
We clean his cage and everything in it twice a day.
Please help.

If the parasite counts are still high, yes keep treating. In fact you probably want to get more agressive with it. Try contacting CheriS over at reptile rooms, she use to have a method of treating resistant strains of coccidia.

I bought a pair of beardies which were sick with Coccidia and which Albon didn't cure. My new vet prescribed a different medication, which is abbreviated on their prescription label and in my billing records as "SMZ". It is a pink, cherry-flavored fluid about the consistency of Albon. You could ask your vet if it's available. I'm sorry, I can't tell you if it worked because I haven't finished the run of meds yet and they still need to go back for a follow-up visit. Good luck getting your dragon better! I hope he pulls through.
