A Desert Lizard

myguppynickel Oct 13, 2004 08:39 PM

I recently recieved from my neighbor's friend's son a lizard caught in the wild in a desert like place. It looks sort of like a mini komodo with a tail roughly about 5-7 inches long(Estimate). This might just be his personality but he won't eat rolly pollys or dead bugs.Could anyone tell me what type this lizard it??

Where was the lizard caught (country, state, etc)? There are deserts all over the world each with its own fauna so you need to be more specific.

Tell us more about its appearance.

Try crickets for food. Most lizards want to eat something that moves. Also, throw in a dandelion, clover flower or piece of green vegetation in case it's an omnivorous or herbivorous lizard.

Make sure the lizard is warm for 12 hours a day by setting up a heat lamp to produce a 90-100F warm spot. Just a spot, not the whole cage. Spray some water into one area once a day.

As soon as someone can identify the lizard, more specific care can be addressed.

okay.He loves crickets and moths. Also I don't think he likes beetles because if anything is in there for over 4 days I call it his buddy.he's got a beetle buddy.I will get pics soon.

Where is a desert like place? Your description is not enough to identify the animal! What color is it? What type of markings or patterns does it have? Most lizards won't eat dead bugs. Try live meal worms, or wax worms. The wild anoles around my home go crazy over the meal worms! Also try green leafy lettuce or dandylion flowers in case he is a vegatarian.
