Tile,heating , and ceramic lights

gurnham4 Oct 13, 2004 11:42 PM

Hye guys
I jsut got tiles today for ym cage. It looks spiffy but there seems to be a problem: the tank is not as warm as my old one (i useto have a 10 gallon) My 15 has a metal/slate bottom (it's all black) and it's an older tank, (not a glass bottom) like I remeber having it when i was 7 and that was over 15 years ago. anyways i think that's preventing alot of the heat flow anyone have any suggestions I saw this ceramic light that supposively doesn't emit any light, it's called a ZooMed Ceramic Heat Emitters

I need some sort of extra heat source that can be left on 24 hours a day, and the tank is in my bedroom so I can't have a bright light shining... infact no light shining is perferred. I have a petsmart gift card so I don't mind using them. anyone know of any heat emitting lights that don't produce light b/c my under tank heaters (i just have the 10 gallon heater hooked up but i am about to hook up the 5) isn't working as well/ Max temp w/o a light going is about 80, and considering it's october and my house has crappy insulation, i need a better alternative

Most ceramic lights are too hot, just use a 60 watt red bulb.you might be able to use a light and haeting pad, dunno though just my opinion

I use a ceramic heat bulb. I have the cord for mine strung over a plant hook so i can raise or lower it to allow me to adjust the temp in the tank. I also have a light bulb rigged the same way so they hang side by side. I had to play around with it for a while, but now with them both on during the day, temp is at 89-90 and when I turn off the light at night the temp drops to 80. I believe that is about what it suppose to be. I have a rock on top of the humid hide to absorb heat from above so they can then lay on the rock and it gives them belly heat. it works really well. my tank is really big though, but the ceramic bulbs come in different sizes too. Mine is rated for 50-70 gal I think it was, but I have seen them for as small as 10 gal

does it emit light?

i have a 120w, 120 v gorow blub in their now which warms up the tank nice but I can't leave it on 24-7, and the heat pads aren't warming the tank enough, so do the ceramic bulbs emit light? if they don't I'll leave them on 24-7. I don't think a red bulb will warm the tank enough

Nope mine does not. I don't know if there are other types. Mine is a beige color and has what looks like coils on a flat surface. Pretty spendy it was like $70. But mine is rated up to a 70 gal tank if I remember correctly. It was actually given to me, so since I had it already i made it work, and it really does work well.
