First Ever successful super dwarf breeding from last season.

BigDan Oct 14, 2004 01:04 AM

For those of you interested here are some pics and info from the first ever Super dwarf breeding of last year. (As far as I know) Many of you have viewed pics of some of the offspring that were exported into the U.S. during the summer.

Adults were originally imported as tiny hatchlings (by a friend of mine 2.2 were received) approx 6 years ago and they were raised to adulthood. They attempted to breed in the 2002 season but only produced 11 infertile eggs. The following year I kept the larger female which now measures approx 7 feet at my home and bred her to one of the males. A fertile clutch was produced. The other female was approx 6.5 feet in length and was sent on breeding loan to Chris Marshall also of Canada and was successfully bred to a Dwarf Albino male purchased directly from Bob Clark.

The hatchlings from the Super to Super breeding hatched at weights of 28 - 32 grams 28.5 grams equals one ounce for those of you not familiar with the metric system.

here are some pics from the breeding. The nest box she is in measures exactly 21" X 14" and she does not take up alot of it.

Absolutely fabulous.
Do you live in Canada currently? I was wondering if you might share a little information with me about how you kept the breeding pair, like the way you caged them (dimensions, etc.), whether you heated the cage with an overhead source or from beneath, etc. I assume from your other pictures that you artificially incubated the eggs. How many eggs were there in the superxsuper clutch that hatched? Did you experience any problems with nose rubbing, and if so, have you found any way to discourage it? I'm getting a pair of WC super-dwarfs from Bob Clark pretty soon, and I'm trying to collect as much good information about them as I can. Anything you can share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
