Non-Genetic Stripes & Genetics

CJBianco Oct 14, 2004 12:50 PM

Why are these Non-Genetic?

I mean... I understand that they aren't genetic, but I visited a site where someone was selling these Non-Genetic Stripes and they had a whole clutch full of them. If they all come from the same clutch, and they all look alike, wouldn't that make them genetic?

Or maybe they didn't all come from the same clutch. Maybe I read it wrong. So...nevermind.

Thanks Anyway,

Maybe they all did come from the same clutch.

If the appearance is caused by incubation then they were all subjected to the same "improper method" of incubation ?

I don't really know anything about incubation yet, but that sounds logical.

They may have all come from the same clutch and they may all look the same....but that doesn't mean that they are genetically reproducable. Sometimes just a fluke happens...like incubation methods or something of the sort. To prove something genetic I believe that someone should at least produce the same thing 2 or 3 years consistantly before stating that it is truly genetically reproducable....unless you get something dominant that is outrageously different looking than a normal...like a spider or another morph of that sort...

I agree. Also, I think people are very careful with how they label these striped snakes now that there is a morph named "Genetic Stripe". Other striping patterns no doubt will come along that are capable of being reliably reproduced, but they won't all look like the "Genetic Stripe", or even if they do, who's to say they'll be compatible (like the axanthic strains). Yes, technically, they'll be genetically striped, but whoever proves them will have to come up with a different name. Fun, ain't it?
