Clutch of Albinos Hatched- with an Axanthic!

CrestedGecko.com Oct 14, 2004 02:06 PM

Hey everyone. I just had my first clutch of visible morph ball pythons hatch. I've produced lots of hets and possible hets, but these are my first visibles. I bred a VPI albino male to a 50% possible het female. The female is unrelated to the male. She was purchased from Harbor Reptiles several years ago. Well, Yesterday, 4 albinos hatched along with 1 het albino and 1 axanthic. I thought I was seeing things at first, but he could be nothing other than an axanthic. No brown or yellow pigment whatsoever. Luckily, he's a male. 3 of the albinos are females so I may keep them back to breed to him. What do you think?

Thanks,

Garrick

I have seen this happen before......I think Ralph hatched some axanthic looking babies from a het albino to a normal female and they all changed to normal looking babies after their first shed...not sure if this was the exact pairing but it was something along those lines.

Hope this isnt the case but what are the chances that you got an albino het for axantic and a double het for snow without you even knowing? Shot if that was the case then you should have had at least one snow in there.....

Good luck
Raul

Hi there I too have seen this happen I had a male that I bought which was produced by Ralph Davis it looked just like an Axanthic and it went through its first shed and still kept the silver color but when it went through its second shed it turned into a normal looking ball I only paid 40.00 for it so I wasnt too disappointed but I wish you all the luck with yours Paul
