Cage vs. Habitat

Hi all!
I am looking into getting a Boa or Python for my girlfriend. She previously had a baby ball that was let loose by her brother when the hurricanes were threating to hit the Tampa Bay area. Pretty dumb idea, huh? Any who....

We have several tanks around the house to get started with (10, 20 and some tall cube that was a salt water tank) but I was looking to build a custom dewlling for it myself when it wa big enough.

Surfing the message board all I really see are cages as opposed to habitats for Boa or Pythons. Is it a issue with space or building a habitat for the really isn't needed. I have seen a few here and a few there, but does anyone else have some type of habitat as opposed to a cage with newspaper for their Boa and/or Pythons.

I would like something that is both pleasing to the snake as well as eye catching when you walk into the room. Also looking for it to be as a decor in the room. I am on a budget so the $5,000 custom jobs are our of the picture.

If anyone has any ideas, suggestion, pictures, etc. please feel free to help me out.

I am new to the message board so please do ask me to use the search feature.

Thank you

Angel

Oh boy do I have some info for you! Please E-mail me! (Click my screen name at the top, it's in blue) I will tell you my plan, I don't plan on spending $200 and the "habitat" is going to be amazing and pretty large! I have some links I can send you too. Just too much to post!

A lot of the guys in the boa and python forums keep a large number of these snakes. If you've ever seen the size of a burmese python dump, you'll know why they use newspaper. It's for ease of maintennance, but it's about the most unattractive substrate there is. Most of their cages are stackable as well for keeping large numbers of animals. I personally have one boa, so I don't spend near as much time cleaning cages as those guys. Therefore, I have more of a habitat than a cage. I spend a lot of time just looking at my animals, and they are much more attractive in a natural habitat. I use the compressed coconut fiber substrate, branches, fake plants and vines, natural looking hiding spots and water dishes, and full spectrum, high color temperature lighting. Pretty much everyone in boas and pythons are going with the plastic cages with a glass or plexi front. They're lightweight, easy to clean, provide a more secure-feeling environment for your snake, and allow access from the front as opposed to the top. I can't emphasize enough how much better a hinged front door is than a sliding screen top. They're also better at holding in heat and humidity. I really recommend the plastic cages over the aquarium setup. Email me if you need manufacturer info or more info.
