All Ohio Reptile Show

snakeman19552002 Jun 28, 2003 12:06 PM

I just returned from the reptile show and unfortunately I was not able to get in the show. Ohio Fish and Game was there and blocking anyone from even entering the parking lot. I know that monkey pox has scared some people, but that is no reason to stop citizens from buying supplies for there pets, and participating in an event that has been around for over 10 years without any incident that warrants police involvement. The rights of exotic pet owners are being taken away.

Has or will this affect other shows. I have been looking forward to the Midwest Reptile Show in Indy tomorrow. Indiana has been one of the main states involving monkey pox.

No one knows, but I think it's a possibility.

Unfortunatly, it had nothing to do with monkey pox. It was a raid on dealers selling illegal animals, more here....

and last time I checked it wasn't illegal to import them. I was at the show and I know a lot of vendors who didn't even get in trouble left because the DNR wasted so much of their time after their long trips. It was supposed to open at 9 and they didn't let anyone in until 1. They ruined the show as far as I'm concerned. I also have very little faith in their ability to care for the many different species they confiscated. I think it was complete overkill and could have been done in a much less troublesome way. If they had undercover guys posing as buyers before, why would they wait another month until a show when suspected illegal vendors may or may not return? They should've said something before instead of surprising everyone and making customers wait out on the street for several hours.
