There are two versions. There is one version called Elements 2.0 that is a stripped-down version of Photoshop. It's about $99.00. The full version is called Photoshop CS. That's the version I use. I think I paid a bit over $600.00 for it. You can get both versions at Best Buy or one of the other big computer stores or you can order it online.

Fair warning, though....there is a substantial learning curve for Photoshop. It is extremely powerful and flexible once you learn it, but it ain't easy to learn.

Elements should do what you need. It doesn't have all of the tolls that Photoshop has and it can't work with Camera Raw images, but you should be able to select a subject and remove the backgound and such as that.

If you happen to be a student or know someone who is, or if you happen to know a computer graphics teacher, you can order the educational version. It's labeled as the educational version, but it's the exact same thing at half the cost - priced for students. That's how I got my copy... I went through my old graphics teacher and she ordered me a version.

Photoshop CS costs $649 direct from Adobe.

Forget spending $100 on Elements. You can spend less than $100 on a half-decent graphics tablet and get a free copy of Elements.

Adobe has a deal that will allow you to upgrade from Elements 1.0 (you have to furnish a valid serial number for Elements) to Photoshop CS (although it is the full release, not an upgrade, and doesn't require that Elements already be installed on your system - it's identical to the regular retail) for only $300.
