Depressed or sick??

caredeocr Oct 14, 2004 06:50 PM

My 4.5 month old has started to hide in his little cave the past
couple days. It is strange because he has never used it before and
Ive had him for over a month now. He is still eating great (60 crix,
couple silkies, some veggies per day), the temps havent changed in
the tank, still pooping twice a day. Im not sure whats wrong. He
seems happy enough and likes it when I take him out of the tank
sometimes to get exercise.

Any ideas? He's too young to brumate right?

Thanks
Chris

well from what you posted it may be nothing to worry about or it could also be a sign of a problem.

best thing is to take the dragon and a fecal sample to a vet.

the vet can then determine if the dragon has any parasites.

often a bd that has a load of cocidia will first seem lazy and start hiding out ... it happend to my bd during the first year.

BUT it can also be that if the hours of light are less than 14 and or if the bd can see sunset times or if the night time temps are starting to get lower he may just know it's fall and start wanting to sleep more. often a real "burmination" will not happen the first year; but that is not always the case.
the dragons size, health, genetics and the environment all play in this.... If for example it's a dragon that has grown fast and is healthy and sees sunset and lower night temps he may just have a light case of burmination the first year.

so get a vet to do a fecal and see if you need more light or to rase night time temps a bit.

If there are only minimal amounts of coccidia.. do not get treatment, Most beardies maintain an amount in their stomachs at all time as it won't bother them, only when triggered by stress will the coccidia get into an abundance and start multiplying causing problems, as I heard in Herp health destroying the parasites will only compromise their immune system.. Just clean the cage everyday monitor his fecals and keep him happy

I've been having problems similar to that as of late.. hopefully my beardeds are pulling through alright they seem to be getting better.
