Go ahead and laugh at me...

LizardMom Oct 14, 2004 09:12 PM

but I'm thrilled! Today for the first time my young ackies not only did not run and hide when I was changing their water, but the larger one continued to bask and even let me stroke his back and head. The smaller one came up to investigate, but split when my hand moved. Hey, for me, this is new and wonderful.

I continue to be amazed at the intelligence of the sav I rescued. He (actually, I'm thinking Bubba may be a 'she') has long ago gotten to trust me enough to stop the threats and chill while I do daily maintenance. But he has figured out my routine: if I take the plex top off, I'm going to reach in to change water, and there's no need to move; if I just raise the lid, and especially if the dog comes in with me, barking because I've got a mouse in my hand, he runs over looking for food. He doesn't mind the dog; it's his 'dinner bell!'

Like I said, go ahead and laugh...

its all good, i believe they are creatures of habbits. My BT's and my sav(also a rescue) learn and expect the routine to continue. On feed days, they are nuts, active, pacing back and forth, and on non feed days they are calm and as placid as can be. They know the difference between feeding and watering, I have noticed that the BT's and the WT's are a little more curious, and aware of what you are doing though, where the savannah just could care less unless you have food, or are handling it, they are awesome fun creatures.

'Bubba,' the savannah, goes through stages. Sometimes he will ignore me, but he is fascinated with watching my husband; I suspect because my husband has never fed him, just talks to him. I think the sav is just hopeful that maybe, just maybe, one of these times he might give him a mouse! So, he is very curious whenever my husband is in the room.
