One of the leopard geckos that came into my rescue is missing its tail. We have had them now for over six months (sometimes we like the reptiles too much to place them right away) and the tail still hasn't fully grown back. It sort of formed a a stub, fat and round at the base, and pointy at the end. My wife jokes that it looks like it has a head on each end now.

I was wondering though, will the tail ever recover its original shape and form? It seems to have stopped growing for a couple months now.

Just curious.

short, fat, and stubby is the way broken tails grow back. its unlikely the tail will grow back to original form. but i've seen some tails grow back a little nicer than others.

There is one at my local petshop, its tail is regrown for sure. It loks like a little bulb, about 3 inches wide, round, and its bigger than the leos head.
Your comment about it looking like it had 2 heads reminded me of it cause thats what i thought when i saw it.

See now if you didn't know it was a regenerated tail that leo could be mistaken for another gecko I know of. They are also a leo gecko I think. But they are like african fat tailed geckos' or false head geckos. What it is is that their tails mimic the shape of their head, so when a predator goes after them the gecko it mistakenly gets its tail instead.

No, its a leo and they are selling it as one. It looks a lot like mine, just less spots and bigger.
That other head thing is pretty good, too bad it only works 50% of the time.
