joshhutto Oct 15, 2004 12:19 AM

this is a picture of one ASF reptiles new girls. one of the best "desert/artic" ghosts I've seen. these pictures aren't the best as lighting wasn't great but you will get the idea of how good she looked. Also ASF has the best pastel's around by far, I will be picking one up from them early 05 as soon as I save the money. enjoy the picture.

Have they proven a line of desert/arctic ghosts and if so how is it inherited? Or are these the ones that change with a shed and then gradually change back to more normal?

according to andre at ASF the one they have is an imported female. he stated it came into the country with the exact same color and pattern and has shed and kept the same color. with that being said it is a wild caught female so time is needed to get feeding and acclimated. hopefully in the next couple years someone will be able to prove one of these beauties out. the ball python world is def a fun one.

Hopefully she keeps the color and proves genetic!

Mine changed quite a bit but is still odd.

Was it obvious that it was an import? With all the captive ones changing color with a singe shed in occurs to me that an unscrupulous person could claim that one was an imports to make it seem more likely that they where genetic and born that way. Of course even a real import could have done the quick change in the wild.

On the other hand I heard that someone might have a captive bred line that starts out normal and gradually turns dark.

i would say it was an import. no obvious parasites but considerably thin compared to it's length. time will tell with that beauty, hope it proves out for those guys, they are top notch.

Howdy, I can certainly see how you would question the ethics of someone selling an animal with this appearance. I can honestly tell you that others may be questionable, but ASF is beyond reproach. I had the pleasure of living within a mile of their shop im Maimi, and spent countless hours there. I have spent a great deal of time with Andre and found him to be a top-notch person. I can also say that I will not even look at pastels produced by ANYONE else, there is no need as he has the best looking. Honestly, Matt Staudenmaier

I thought ASF bought it. It didn't even occur to me that they might be trying to sell it. Maybe I should be less naive about why pictures are posted.

I was just hoping they didn't get taken as I could see one of those captive changer snakes trading hands a couple of times and suddenly becoming an import without the known history of having changed suddenly. Did we ever come to a consensus on what causes those sudden changes? Someone suggested dirty cages causing skin problems. All those changers that popped up last year certainly confuse things should a genetic one show up some day. Of course I suppose even the ones that change with one shed could end up being a genetic condition of some sort.

Neat sequence! And I like your descriptions, too.

Interested in a breeding loan on that classic jungle male? I've got a female CJ that should be ready this spring. I know everyone says it isn't genetic, but I've always been one to shun "common knowledge!"
