Help Found A Frog in BUlldozing Area

Renee524 Oct 15, 2004 10:46 AM

I work in a small corporate office ina somewhat wooded area. A lot of the woods are being torn down to put commercial buildings. Amongst all the bulldozing at the lot next door, what looks to be a small bull frog wandered up to the back of our warehouse today. The guys, in fear he would get smooshed, brought him inside to me know mine and my boyfriends love for herps. Only thing is I've never kept a frog. I'd like to release him in a pond nearby my house, only thing is I don't want to release him to his death. Would I be better off keeping him through the winter, and releasing him in the spring, or would it be best to let him go??? PLease HELP!!!

HI! I'm glad you saved the frog. IF it is a bullfrog, it probably will freak out a lot when you put it in captivity. If you release it in a pond, make sure there are frogs in it, meaning it is habitable or whatever. Also, if there are lots of small frogs in the pond, no bullfrogs, you may be reducing more frogs by letting it go. I don't think bullfrogs like wooded areas too much, maybe it was a different kind? check this site.

also, many frogs will not be able to breed the year after they are kept inside for the winter if they are not hibernated. One way to hibernate them is put them in your garage with something damp to burrow into. I cannot fully ensure it living through this; anyone else got a better way? Good luck in your decision, someone else please post also!
