Vision Tub Shipment

BuffaloTortoise Oct 15, 2004 12:13 PM

Hi, Everyone,

I'm hoping to purchase some large Vision Tubs from someone on the other side of the country (I'm in NY; they're in CA). Does anyone have any experience with shipping such items? What carrier/trucking service would you recommend that'll be quick but not make me pay through my eyeballs?

Thanks, and All the Best,

Tony

Hi,

Yeah, I had tried RL Reps, but this fellow in CA is selling used tubs at a third of the price. That's why I'm hoping I can get shipping at a decent rate.

Thanks,

T

I would let the shipper investigate price if he wants to sell them. If the shipper doesn't have the fortitude to find you the best deal on shipping rates, than you may want to keep looking elsewhere.

I shipped out 10 used vision cages to Florida from California about 6 months ago, got dimensions and looked at the various shipping companies on price, etc. It came out to be roughly $30 per cage to ship.

Now, if your tubs are longer than 4 feet, they will tack on an extra charge for being oversized. Most of the carriers go on a dimensional rate, so that is important.

I found shipping boxes at uline.com to put the cages in and wrapped the glass in bubble wrap. It was a real pain, but I needed to get rid of the cages to make room for breeder racks.

For the most part you will need to weigh for yourself, "is it worth it for these used cages or can I get a brand new one for a little more, and close to home".
Good luck!
Lori
