Help...my friend just caught 3 baby garters last Saturday...they are not feeding...I live in Illinois..tempature is about 45-50 at night..high about 50-60 daytime..is it to late to release them back into the wild?

What kind of garters are they and what has he tried to feed them?
it is a bit late in the year for them. I wouldn't release them this late.
