Breeding Calotes

colubrid101 Oct 15, 2004 05:29 PM

I recently purchased a female Vietnamise Calote and discovered that she was gravid (there were two firm, large, oval masses in her stomach). I was wondering If anybody knows how to care for the eggs/hatchlings (where will she lay them, should I have a nesting box, how should I incubate them, how do I tell if they are fertil, ect.

Any help would be great.

I don't really know but I would guess they would use a nest box. You don't state which Calotes she is so here's what I could find:

Calotes calotes - 6-12 eggs that hatch after 79-84 days at 20-26°C(68-79°F)

emma emma Gray - 4-6 eggs that hatch after 62-74 days at 25-28°C(77-82°F) or 100 days at 19-22°C(66-72°F)

mystaceus Dumeril & Bibron - 7-11 eggs that hatch after 60-70 days at 24-26°C(75-79°F)

versicolor - 1-25 eggs that hatch after 37-79 days at 22-23°C(72-73°F)

If you can't post a photo for ID-ing her I would recommend you find a copy of Agamid Lizards by Manthey & Schuster and look through it.

Good luck!
