Ive got my one bairds wont eat anything but a gecko scented pinky. and now the pet shop i got the substrate from is using newspaper so i was wondering would it be worth it to get a gecko and keep it on aspen just to keep my bairds alive? i'm posting over in the gecko forum to see if it could stay in a small kritter keeper and what id need and how much theyd run and such...

Just buy a few geckos freeze them, then run them thru a blender.Put remains in a ziplock and just toss a pinky in the bag with them the night before you feed.Scenting without the hassle. You can reuse the geckos till they freezer burn.Ive used anoles this way on stubborn corns. Most came out of the scented phase in a few weeks to a couple months.Hope this helps...Paul.

so do i puree them while they're still frozen? Do I need to put any water in there with them or just the geckos?

I've been using the same original gecko substrate for 4 months to scent pinkies. It still seems to be doing its thing. I took the substrate and put it in a deep deli cup with a lid and some holes at the top so the pinkie can breathe. I put the pinkies in that I want to scent. After each feeding, I put the lid on the deli cup and put it away until the next time I want to use it. I've actually dropped the amount of time the pinkie is in the cup since your post. I used to leave them in over night, but now they are just in there for a short time. I am hoping that as the gecko scent dissapates from the substrate it will give my lyre snakes a pinkie with less scent on it. This might actually help me to sort of wean the snakes off scented. I only have one stubborn lyre still holding out for scented. He should be getting a pinkie with less gecko scent on it as time goes on.

it is a little tiny bottle of lizard scent that is made by T-Rex (I think). You just put one little drop of it onto one end of the pinky to scent it. You might have to go to a reptile show or order it online, I did see it ONE time at Petsmart, but that was the only time.
