Western Pond Injury

Look at this shell. Looks like something took a good bite out of it. Found this one yesterday. Even with the injury it seemed to be pretty healthy.

Take a picture of the side of it's shell. Does it look like a fresh wound?

I've seen a bite similar to that one where I live. We have midland painteds and snappers that inhabit the same bodies of water. I've always assumed it was a snapper that did the damage.

Heres the side. It had a jelly like casing over the organs
