Updated Baby Pics (two and 1/2 wks old)

Lyn Oct 16, 2004 08:34 AM

The little baby Dragon I bought 2 weeks ago is doing very good. He is active, alert and is eating mini mealies & small crickets. I tried red worms but could not keep them in the food bowl longer than about 5 seconds. I wasn't sure if he'd eat them if I cut them up. I'll try that next time and see if it works better. He's getting used to the Calcium Powder. The first time I dusted his crickets he grabbed one and spit it out and then smacked his lips and refused to eat any that day. Would liquid Calcium in his misting water be an option? He does drink every time I mist him. Or should I stick to dusting his crickets a couple times a week? He definitely isn't crazy about the dusted crickets although he has started to eat some of them. He seems to have grown in the last 2 weeks. Here are some photos...

Here he was at 3 days old, my knuckle was a mountain to him...

Now at two 1/2 weeks old he can't fit on one knuckle any more...

He is just so gosh darn adorable!

Here he is sitting on a leaf

I found some nice enclosures on www.ExoticLizards.com that I think might work for him. He's in a 20 Long tank now which I know is not ideal since they prefer height. The "baby" sized enclosure is 16" wide, 16" deep, 24" tall. All screen with a front opening door. The adult size is 24" wide, 24" deep, 48" tall. There are two sized in between. Would something like this work good? Does anyone have a link to a site that sells enclosures that you've found to be similar or better?

Thanks for looking at the pics. I'm still working on a name. I'm having trouble because I don't know if he's a boy or girl so have to choose a neutral name, and a "cutesy" name would not suite his looks or personality.

One last picture...

He really looks good. You must be doing ok with him. I wouldn't worry about him eating wigglers yet. Most of mine are fed exclusively on dusted mealworms and roach nymphs until they are about 6 months old. They I try to introduce red wigglers. Usually they will take them from my fingers if I dangle them next to them. I do dust the mealies and the roaches with MinerAl-I every feeding. They seem to get pretty used to it. Make sure the insects are well gut-loaded with high nutrition stuff before feeding them off and baby will be fine!

Nice photos too!
