l_l3lackwolf_l Oct 16, 2004 08:42 AM

Hi, im planning to get a gecko and i was thinking of getting sand as a substrate, since its makes its terrarium more natural....though im getting advices that it is not safe for geckos because it causes inpaction.:-S

Well, just to try and save this place from exploding, go with paper towel for the substrate to be safe if it is a younger leo. If it is an older one 5-6 months you can do either or you could go with tiles as the substrate Hope this helps,

you can also use tile but you might need a ceramic heater if you get tile. I've been using under tank heaters until i bought tile and now the tile isn't heating up enough (too thick) so i need to get a ceramic light thing. tile looks nice and is easy to clean. you can also get reptile carpet but you gotta remember pee soaks into it and it stinks after awhile

Reptile carpet has been known to make leos toes get stuck in it. One persons leo dropped its tail because he got his toes caut. I would stick with tile. It is safe and easy to clean.

Gurnham...I use the plastic bendy kind of tile and it heats up really well. It's cheap too. I think everyone here agrees tile is the best way to go.

No, calci-sand is still almost as bad as reg sand. You can get tiles at home depot or lowes for like 99 cents.

But would´nt you have to fill the tile´s gaps with sumthing? sand? if so, which kind?

If you get the plastic kind you can cut it to the exact size. I don't fill the gaps with anything..cause i don't really have gaps...lol.
