WHERE IS THE POOP?!? Please help!

anson Oct 16, 2004 10:09 AM

I got a 100% het for pied male last month on the 23rd. He was supposedly eating and had eaten 7 meals with the breeder. He came in and looked fine and ate for me right away. His first meal was a FT fuzzy he ate on the 26th of Sept. His day time temps are 85-90 from cooler to warmer end of enclosure.
Night time temps are approx 75-78. Humidity is good.
He ate again on the 3rd a FT hopper and again on the 8th a live small weanling mouse. He had been on rat pups according to the breeder. He has been in shed for over a week and refused the last meal offered. The day before yesterday I tried a FT Hopper and yesterday I tried a live rat pup. Both were gerbil scented as all his meals have been. Should I be worried? Also he has gone from constant striking at me to completely un aggressive.
Should I be worried?

Not an expert but here are my thought from what I have read.
-I wouldn't really worry about the defication. Sometimes my BP's go a while before they go.
-One question about your temps. Why are you dropping them to to 75 degrees? Unless you are breeding them keep the temps the same as the day. I may be wrong and did the some as you when I first started but read and talked to a couple of breeders that you can keep the temps the same as long as you have a hot and cool side in the enclosure.
-About the shed. When you say shed? Do you mean the eyes glossed over and scales became clowdy or do you mean your BP shed part of his skin and cant get the rest. If its just showing shed it can take around a week or more from when you see the eyes cloud over. After they cloud up you will notice that they will clear up (look somewhat normal) a day or so before they shed.

Hope this helps and again I am not a Pro but have 7 BP's and have had them for about a year. Just my experiences.

They clouded over then got pretty clear then last night when I was holding him a bit of it tore off his back but he has not tried removing the rest. It does seem more like two weeks since he clouded over but I could be wrong. the reason I am worried is I have a female baby ball python and fed her and she pooped within three days. Also he refused the last meal offered could that be due to the shed. As for the night time temps They are in a display case that I bought when a store went out of business. The room I keep them in is pretty warm anyway and usually has stayed above 75 at night but the heating element in the cases is from overhead light bulbs. Only a 15 watt can be used in the case per enclosure because it will get too hot (over 95) with a 25 watt. I was shutting off the bulbs at night to get a day night cycle established. I have other bp's in the same case that are doing great. Each in there own enclosure. They are nice because I can see each snake clearly to check on them but I have some regular glass tanks I can set up for belly heat if you think it would be better.

That really doesn't sound right about the piece coming off of him when you picked him up. Might want to make sure the humidity is high especially right now with this problem. Keep an eye on him and if it doesn't get better go to a vet.
That enclosure that you have sounds like it has cool possibilities. Me personally I would figure out how to get belly heat in there. Can you get some Heat tape or NEW Heat Wire under the enclosure. Usually you can always work something out. If it is one of those glass display casses like I am thinking how are they getting fresh air. Do you have holes or vents in it? Just curious. Also, is the light in the enclosure? Watch out for the bulb if it is. As you know they like to explore every cm of their enclosure. Watch out for burns or worse the bulb breaking. Good luck

so you can grip it after hours of on and it doesn't burn you.
The enclosure below is all that is under it and it is full.
Holes are drilled in the back for vents and they are small so only good for smaller snakes and baby balls,
The door slides so I don't know how to get the wire in there for belly heat plus the heat tape would have to go in there.
