Its a Mexican black king. I forgot to ask the guy how old she is, but im guessing an 02 or early 03. What do you guys think?
Also, the guy said she has a real tame temperment. I picked her up and she is very calm, now my question is, will she get aggressive after a couple of days from being in her new cage?

Hey there... Nice looking girl. She could possibly be an early '03 if she was kept up out of brumation last winter and fed heavily. More likely she is an '02 model. Mexican Blacks are typically a very even tempered animal, they make terrific pets and have great appetites, any I have had in the past have had the appetite of a wild dog! On that note, be sure to feed that pretty girl in a separate tub, if you reach in and hand her food she will quickly become conditioned to recognizing your hand comming in to her enclosure as being a source of food, and she will go for it with enthusiasm and possibly mistake your finger/hand as a meal. Nip nip! If that happens, just run her under a gentle stream of luke warm water and she will let you go, no harm done... just a cool snake bite mark with those pointy tiny teeth. I always feed in a separate sterile tub and place the mousie in there before the snake, washing the mouse scent off my hands before handling the snake. I never get nipped this way unless.... the snake is REEEEEEEEALLY hungry. Keep that girl's tummy full and don't let her miss a meal. You will enjoy having her around immensely! Congrats...

Which show are you referring to? I was at the Chicago NARBC conference and trade show in Tinley Park last weekend and Jim Sargent of Split Rock Reptiles was there with his '04 Easterns, nice ones. He also had his '04 Outer Banks hatchlings there and they were incredible as well. I spent a lot of time talking with Jim and he is a really swell guy and great breeder, he works with quality animals and is willing to share anything he knows with you.

I don't blame you for buying that nice Mexican Black female, they are always hard to resist, especially the jet black ones. And they are just the coolest natured kings... docile, lively, curious, very hardy and spectacular looking! Wish I had the room and still had mine to be honest with you, they are so enjoyable. I no longer have mine, made room to focus on the 4 mexicana complex kings (alterna, greeri, mex mex and thayeri) with specific focus on thayeri. I was able to aquire a pure melanistic female thayeri (Variable Kingsnake) earlier this year and she is a very large and spectacular '02 animal. Like your Mexican Black, she also is a very hard to find (for melanistic thayeri that is) totally jet black animal. If I could find a melanistic male of equal quality I would be a very happy guy, most thayeri breeders have gotten away from the black ones and it is a shame, after all they are quite special and an important part of this amazing subspecies of L. mexicana. I hope to produce them and keep them going in a separate line from all of my vivid colored ones.
