Mali size???

Retep Jun 28, 2003 02:47 PM

At around July 17th I'm getting a new uromstyx. I'm getting a full grown mali from reptilekingdom.com most likely. I understand malis get about 18 inches long or so. So um....does anyone a have a good pic of a mali for size refference? And does anyone know a good caresheet?

Peter

These are my 3 malis which are a pretty good idea of the size range they can have.

The one on the far left, Quinn, is female and stunted. She's full grown and won't get any bigger.

the one in the middle is Anna. She is a normal size for a full grown, adult female mali.

The male, Ricky, is about the biggest male Mali I have ever seen, both length and girth wise. i don't have any pictures looking down at them to give you a better idea of it, but quinn fits easily in the palm of my hand, whereas Ricky overflows my hand quite bountifully. i'd say if he held still long enough, sitting in the palm of my hand his tail would still reach the length of my forearm.

I see you have some dwarf monitors, how do you like them? I have the larger ones(albigs.)

actually, i love them. i have, from what i can gather, the only good tempered Timor in history. I've had him since he was teeny weeny, still not full grown. but other than the initial squirmyness when you first pick him up he is so sweet. hasn't bitten me ever. and our ackie is just the most relaxed thing i've ever seen, i can't even get over it. in the middle of laying eggs a couple days ago, my boyfriend put his arm into the cage to give her some fresh water and she jumped up on his arm and started crawling all over him, then jumping on to me, crawling on my head, etc etc. once we get our own apartment we are going to use the spare bedroom for bigger lizards (i really want a black throat).

very cool. what kind of wood did you use? did you use glass or plastic for the sliding part (it is sliding, right?) how did you do that (sliding thing)?? (we're looking to making a bigger enclosure for my growing timor, he'll need something bigger once he's full grown and we've found him a girlfriend)

actually they are hinged, I used 3/4" melamine(thermo fused) not the contact paper sort of stuff, they sell it at home depot in 4x8 sheets, it is very heavy though, but I have had good luck with it, I used acrylic, or plexi glass, you might want to try galvanized feeding or horse troughs, they work really well for dwarf monitors, I use them for my tegus, and bearded dragons...

well we've been leaning towards something with a side-opening, since timors are pretty skittish, even mine at first, and the overhead openings usually don't help.

yeah my boyfriend and i have decided that we're only buying reptile supplies at home depot now lol it's so much cheaper. we've made all these multilevel basking spots for all our herps using $.39 bricks and big pieces of flagstone. our next project will be a nice box style cage, something like what you have going there. i just bought a hibiscus plant from them that blooms so much we end up not using all the blooms for our little uros, but they love the little treat on top of their salads.
