Is this nomal (gross poop picture)???

pernads Oct 16, 2004 02:36 PM

OK, i dont normally take pictures of my reptiles poop, but this was quiet shcoking to me. He only poops about once a week. and todays was the largest ive seen. He does eat alot, and he actually looks quite a bit smaller now after he pooped. The first picture was about an hour before the first picture. I think i interupted him, and he just went again. Does this look normal to you???

What a coincidence... My chameleon just pooped something that big about an hour ago. The poop normally comes out looking like that if a chameleon doesn't poop very often.

My chameleon has the same routine as yours, but on top of that, he will only poop if i take him for a "walk". He probabaly thinks he is a dog. I have to take him out of his cage if he is to poop.

Initially, i was very concerned about his health. So i spent alot of money at the vet trying to figure out what is wrong with this fella. Fecal xams are negative, and he is perfectly healthy, or so i am told. Eventually i noticed that it is possibly more of a behavioral problem than biological, as eveytime i take him to the vet, he lays a huge poop bomb at the vets examination room.

So, nowadays, i just have to take him out of his cage once in a while for him to go. Maybe you should try that too.

If you thought getting a chameleon would eliminate the chore of walking your pet....

The dark orange (almost brown in the second pic) right after the urate or in the second pic it looks like it could have been the whole part of the urate. Generally means dehydration. The only going once a week is also common in dehydration. Can you take a pic of his head and eyes and post it. That will help confirm if it is dehyradtion. Fecal tests will still come back negative (OK) even if dehydration is an issue. So a vet might say that the Cham is healthy because the fecal test is neg but not have enough knowledge on Chams to tell it is dehydrated. How are you providing water. Do you see you Cham drink during the day? How often? Hope I can help.

There is a picture of his head. I have a Mr Moisture system, and I see him drinking alot. I aslo mist him alot him warm water, and he loves to get sprayed. I have the mister on every two hours for 3 minutes. His diet consists of crickets, supers, waxies, roaches, mealworms and sometimes silkies. I always dust with Calcium, and every other time with vit D. I also use nekton-rep everyother week. He is fed daily, and has plenty of UVB light.

other than this, he is totally healthy. his fecals are negative, and he gets all the care he needs. The only thing i can think of is i feed him too much.

Cool looking guy! He looks healthy. His casque is full and eyes look fine not as full as some but some panthers are a little less "buggy". My only guess is that since the feces stays in the upper GI for a week it drys out and looks like dehydration. My advise is switch to soft body stuff (silkies) for a week and see if he passes feces more frequently if so use more silks than crix etc going forward. The only other thought I have is mabey he is over calcified too much supplimentation of calcium can make poop more solid and constipate the animal. Godd luck. But again he looks great to me but I am no vet.

you said you dust everytime with calcium? I think that is way too much if he is adult. I also agree with roocat that there seems to be a lot of undigested insects. He looks a little chunky to me in the pic (very pretty though ) How much does he eat? Do you gutload your feeders?

That made very light headed – I seriously had to lay down for a bit. That doesn’t look right to me at all. I have only had a cham for a little over six months but I have never seen him drop one like those. The color looks weird, lots of bug matter partially digested, and the urates look bad. Not to mention the huge size – should give him a piece of bamboo to bite on while he goes. Once a week doesn’t side right either. My cham pretty much goes every day – occasionally a day is skipped now and then. How much and what by that matter to do you feed him? Can you post some pics of him and maybe describe your layout a bit?

that looks to me like it could be a parasitic issue.. take a fecal sample to a vets and make sure thats not an issue then you can rule one issue out of the picture.. then you want to check you are feeding him the right quality/quantity of insects.. are u making sure you are loading them up on watercress carrott and other stuff like this?

i regularly dust my insects with miner-all and a calcium additive which i do miner all once a week and calcium 3 times a week which is more than enough.. and with panthers i've noticed they love being well hydrated so keep his water up as much as he can drink really.. have you tried a rodent water feeder? i've heard of panthers taking to them quiet well.. although mine hates them.. good luck !
