getting an iguana

banana Oct 16, 2004 03:31 PM

I'm really thinking about getting an iguana, and my parents say I can. Is there anything I need to know about before getting one? Is it better to rescue one or to get one from a store? I know a reptile show would be best, but there aren't any in Oregon or even close. What I want to do is get a young female iguana, then I can have it grow up used to me, and once it gets big enough let it roam free around the house, putting it in a cage at night or something. I don't want to jump into this with only biased views though, so if there's anythign I need to know please tell me. I have a kingsnake, but he's been missing a week so I think he might be gone. Please reply! Thank you!

Read up before yout ake the plunge into getting an igg they are alot of work and can be rewarding as pets..
just realize that they get big. and big reptiles eat alot.. and when they eat alot they poop alot... also how old are you? realize that your igg could end up bigger than you are.. my igg is around 4 feet long and some times i have trouble holding onto him and im 6'5" and if he wants down that he is getting down. the best thing to do is to adopt. thats what i did and i will never look back.. my igg is the best.. though right now hes going into breeding season so he is pissy right now but i still love him. also realize that you will need a big cage for him and it will cost you a decent amount of money to build. also is there a reason you are leaning twords a female igg? just realize that she will lay eggs every year. even if there is no male present. and she could get egg bound. if you ahve any other questions post here or feel free to email me at Zombie2979@aol.com
