The three I saved...

herpheart13 Oct 16, 2004 05:22 PM

Ok, I saved three full grown male eastern box turtles from getting killed by the hurricane a couple weeks ago. Now, I plan to let them go. Should I let them go back in my yard where they were found or in a more natural environment? My yard has lots of woods in it and has pretty good resources for them, not the most perfect though. I kinda leaning towards back in my yard. What do you think?

Let them go where you found them. What looks good to you might actually not be perfect for a box turtle. Plus, if they are from that area, they will already know the best spots for eating each season of the year, for hibernation, and for soaking.

Yes, I suppose they are all living well out here. One is 5in., another is 6in, and the last is, you guessed it, 7in. They all seemed to be thriving. I'll let them go here today. I might have another chance of seeing them again since I know I've already seen one of them before. One of them is just beautiful. He has a black and yellow shell and REALLY neon orange and white body. I can tell he's pretty old. He has a healed place on his shell where it looks as though another animal took a chunk outta him!!!
