cant type much

I had just picked up my chameleon, my little guy, and was sitting ON THE GROUND with him about 6 inches from it, when he LET GO of my finger and fell that 6 inches.... once he hit the ground he stopped moving, and turned a dark brown color, since then he has been "gaping" non stop and sticking what i can only guess is his tounge sheath out and shutting his mouth again... i took a picture with my camera phone so its poor quality.

he has since turned a dark brown and he is still breathing and such.

there are no vets on my vet list that are answering their phones so i dont know what to do

please respond

Nevermind. he died shortly thereafter. I have no idea what the hell happened. hes taken worse falls than that before into his substrate and been fine. I dont understand. he just didnt make it. I live in a damned apartment complex that has no yard so i have no idea where im going to bury him. i wonder if there was something else wrong with him.. i got him the same time as my other veiled and the other veiled is... so much bigger.... i just should have known not to handle the little guy if i even suspected that there might be something wrong with him... damnit damnit damnit! i wish there was something i could have done or i knew what to do. or maybe i just shouldnt have pets i dont know.. i have to go find someplace to bury him that drunk college pricks wont dig him up for fun

thats horrible. i really hope that no one would dig up your pet. sorry for your loss. i wouldnt think that six inches would be enough to kill him. possibly a punctured lung and he was gaping for air? i really hope you feel better.

I'm so sorry. If he was the same age but so much smaller than your other veiled, maybe something was already wrong with him when you got him. Maybe there wasn't anything you could do.

Honestly, if he just let go and fell I doubt it was the fall that hurt him. Whatever caused him to let go is what did it, imo. Also, if he was falling often or much before then there was obviously something wrong. And, the fact that he was so small compared to siblings indicated that something was likely wrong. Some babies just don't make it. That is why chams have such large clutches (well, that and natural predators). Many naturally die before three months.
I'm sorry you had to experience that. It would be an aweful thing to see, I can imagine...

how awful for you! How old was he? As was mentioned he may have already had other troubles. Unless he landed on something sharp I can't imagine that fall would kill him. Did you see any puncture wounds? I hate to admit it but Luna took a fall more than six inches and was fine. They will often puff themselves up with air to cusshion thier fall

as for burying, find a nice spot in nearby woods where you can lay him to rest. If it will be a few days you can wrap him and put him in the freezer until you can get him somewhere.

Again, so sorry
