Red Milksnake Eye Cap Shed

kingsnaken Oct 16, 2004 07:35 PM

I just got a baby red milksnake less than 2 months ago, and it has shed 3X already. The last time one of the eye caps did not shed, and I would like some help. I have helped snakes with problem shedding before, but not the eyecaps. I have already trie a Qtip with warm water, but that didn't do it. Tomorrow, I am going to try mineral oil. After that, I haven't the foggiest. If I can't get it, I will try the vet. Any suggestions? Thanks, Derek

Although I have my own methods, I wouldn't recommend them to someone over a board like this. You have to be careful with eyes! I say.... if he's shedding that much, just wait for the next one. However, if it still doesn't come off, then go to the vet.

I put her in a container with warm wet paper towels and a rock, and she got it off by herself.

Thank you,

Derek

For future reference, I read an article a few months back in REPTILES MAGAZINE saying to put a piece of tape on your finger sticky side out and very gently tap the eye cap. I had to do it for my kingsnake and it worked like a charm.
