Flexwatt heated rack system for juvies and adults!

googo151 Oct 16, 2004 10:38 PM

Hey Bloods,
This is one of the rack systems that I use for Juvie bloods and short-tails in my collection. The system is heated from the rear of the unit using 11inch Flexwatt, cut to the height of the unit, about 45inches. Additional heat is provided using 3inch Flexwatt, under every second tub, cut to fit the depth of the unit. All Flexwatt is controlled using a Helix basic thermostat.

Nice rack. Just curious, why the 3" under every other tub vs. under every tub?

Hey,
I found that the heat, also, radiates down, so that the need for heat under every tub, will be over-kill.

Hey,
Here is a shot of the Flexwatt, in the rear of the unit, using the 11inch and the 3inch Flexwatt size, cut to fit the length and depth of the unit.

What temp do you set the thermostat for?

Thanks

googo151 Oct 18, 2004 01:26 PM

Hey,
I set the temperature to suit, or not exceed that of the ambient should the embient be hign during the summer months. I set the temperature to 84 degrees fahrenheit, and higher during the cooler autumnal months and winter accordingly. You would have to gauge your set-up and see what works best for your set-up. During winter months the temperature is set for 88*.

I'm probably gonna have to put something like that together before too long. I seem to just have a corner with cages and rubbermaids all with their own system, yours is much easier and more organized! Maybee I'll be getting a Helix for Christmas

Hey J,
Here is a look at the heat from the inside. You can see the 11inch Flexwatt in use in the photo, taped on, using clear tape, touching only the edge of the clear portion of the Flexwatt and not any of the heat elements. The same is true of the 3inch FW.
