Injured Cal King update-swelling

metalpest Oct 17, 2004 12:27 AM

I previously posted about my king which had skin scratched off after escaping her enclosure. She was found back on 10-4 and Ive kept her hot and given her wounds neosporin and sprayed her with bio-mist to cure the missing scales. Some of her cuts are looking better but one is swelling a bit. How can I knock down the swelling?

I was told I should wait 10 days to feed, and to feed small prey, and here we are. Should I still feed her with the swelling going on? She rests a lot, I havent seen her active yet. She's not all that skinny so I think she may have enough fat to survive for a while, but will feeding her small meals help her recover? You've got to eat something right?

Thanks again to everyone that has helped!

Depending on depth of cut/sctratch, it may be slow healing if not an infection. I have a full grown female Okeetee corn snake that recovered from a huge cut in the middle of her body. I also received a four foot Kingsnake that had many areas of skin fungus/skin infections and it recovered merely by keeping the cage very dry (only put water bowl in cage once a week - then twice a week later) and continued feeding.

I would feed her a couple of small meals. I would not take any chances and treat her with some antibiotics that can be purchased at your local veterinarian. Take a small dose (check label and weight of snake) and insert it into the snakes small meal. . .
My little experience,
Hope this helps

Her cuts are not deep, its more like missing skin. One of them has puffed out a little. Thanks for the info, Ill look into some antibiotics.
