Hide Boxes

Spotted_Leopard Jun 28, 2003 03:29 PM

Hey, just some quick questions about your hideboxes everyone.

1. What are they made from?(sweater boxes, plastic bowls, ect)
2. What do you put in them?
3. Where do you put them in your cage?
4. Do you have more than one?
5. How much did you pay for them?

Sorry for all of the questioning!

Oh, and if you don't have a lot of room in your aquarium, then is there a way to squeeze a nice sized hidebox in there so it won't take up too much of the tank?

Thanks...Jaz

you can make them out of just about anything.. they best bet would be a cheap disposable tupperware bowl with a top.. cut a hole big enough for your gecko to get in and out of easily.

2. What do you put in them?
you can put damp paper towels, peat moss, soil in them.. anything that holds moisture

3. Where do you put them in your cage?
you put them on the warm end of your cage

4. Do you have more than one? you have more than one if you have more than one gecko

5. how much do they cost?
they shouldn't cost you more than a couple of dollars in materials....

ok...

1. I actually bought most of my hideboxes, the majority are from vision cages, and are made out of a plastic. The humid hides are made out of cool whip conatiners.

2. In the humid hides i use peat moss or bed a beast, it holds moisture very well and the leos can dig a bit.

3. the humid hides are in the center against the back wall, and the other hides are at both ends of the tanks.

4. Each of my leos has 3 hides to themselves.

5. I payed like 4 bucks for the vision hides and for the humid hides it was just the pice of the cool whip and the peat moss.

All my leos have vision tanks, so they have plenty of room.

I am currently using cool whip containers as humid hides for my leos, as well as commercially made plastic logs, and (as I posted up above) recently found what good hides plastic coffee mugs make. The humid hides have Forest Bed bedding in them and are on the warm side of the tank. In my 20 gallon long tank I have one hide on the cool side, and 2 hides (one humid, one dry) on the warm side. The Forest Bed stuff comes in brick form and cost me 6 bucks at Petco, the commercial log hides cost me 7-8 bucks (also from Petco). The mug and cool whip containers cost nothing (we had them already). I also have some plastic aquarium plants to make the big tank nicer looking (3 bucks each at Walmart). Pics to come!!!
