pregnant or not?

Tiia Oct 17, 2004 02:57 AM

I bought adult pair of cresties and they have been housed together since first of september.Male have tried to mate her since then but still I haven´t seen any eggs.Is there any signs that I can see is she gravid or not? And how long it takes before she is laying? I have read that usually female lays eggs after 20-28 days after mating.Tank is ok size with lots of plants and bamboos etc.Humid is ok,no heating.Uv-light is in there because of plants.I have put a laying box in there with vermiculit and female have been digging in there allmost four weeks but no eggs (I cheked it out every morning).I don´t know what could be wrong....

I've seen it take up to 3 months or more before any egg production began after first mating. I think the figure you gave of 20-28 days will be more relevant concerning the interval between eggs produced, once production begins. You’ve got some time to wait yet.

So I don’t think it’s anything to worry about. It can be tough to tell is a large female is pregnant (our biggest hovers around 52g). So if all the major husbandry issues are being addressed, you’ll get eggs soon – just be patient.
