at what length of below surface ( outdoors )does a midwest box turtle have to be during the winter in order to survive freezing weather. Take notice that the supposedly 18 inch frost/freeze line in ground in the past few years has been updated to 12 inches. But last year and probably the year before the frost/freeze zone was only at 8 inches or less due to our mild winters. Out in the Flint Hills of Kansas and uncovering some rocks, we have noticed that the Box Turtles species are just fairly below the surface at not more than what seems to be 2 to 4 inches.
Thanks in advance.
