an eye question

tandy10 Oct 17, 2004 11:29 AM

Hi, I am new to this site. I am a new ornate uro owner. I purchased him from Doug. We named him Quest.
He is active and seems very healthy. I do have one question though - he seems to do something strange with his eyes in the mornings. It looks like his eyes are going to bulge out of his head and he seems to roll the inner membrane around. Is this normal, and if so, why does he do it?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

i have seen my guys do this too and usually they are just releasing salt. if you are really concerned just pay attention and make sure no gooeys are coming out of his eyes but it should just be the salt

Very glad to have you both on the Uro forum

I have to agree, usually is normal, sometimes lizards even do this to expell a piece of dirt or sand out of the eye.

Doug had VERY nice uro's.

I wish you all the best with Quest, (hey that rhymes, hhehehe)

Again nice to have you, post a pic of your new friend if ya can, we would love to meet him!

Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum! Congratulations on acquiring your new friend! We always love to see pictures.

There is a lot of expertise floating around this board, so if you have questions this is a great resource.

it is the nictating membrane also called the third eyelid. they use it clean or moisten their eyes or to protect in certain situations. its weird that you asked this question because im studing to be a vet tech and was just learning about it yesterday.
