auriculatus

Can anyone tell me if incubation temps can affect eyes.On 22nd of sept we had a pair of aurics hatch, one was normal but the other has one eye whose pupil is distoted, and recently seems to have a white dot on it which might indicate it is blind(it can hunt perfectly well though). This morning we had another one hatch whose eyes are affected again, this time one eye is sort of sunk in and quite a bit smaller than the other. Its jumping around but its to early to know if it can catch crix. Both babies are from completely different parents 2 fathers and 2 mothers who are not related,

I have not seen this in aurics. However I have seen a genetic deformity in Oedura with eyes. Evidently they are born w/o a tear duct which leads to massive occular pressure build up (giant swolen eye balls, not very pretty). I have had this problem and shut down breeding them.

I have also had corneal punctures in Leos which were treated with a systemic antibiotic (Baytril) and a topical ointment (Neosporin or the equivalent). Full recovery with total recovery of sight if caught early.

Couple things I would consider.

One would be inbreeding. inbreedign depression can cause many deformities. Where did you get the parents from? Was it the same time from same breeder? know the history of the animals can help and if unkown that could be an issue.

The second thing would be possible mold or other contagens in the incub medium. Did you reuse the medium from the first set of eggs that hatched? I've heard of some people doing that and that is along time for that stuff to moist and warm. Plus the fluids from the eggs at hatching getting into the medium.

Those would be the only possibilities I can think of.

The parets are definately unrelated as my female came direct from Germany and my male was bought in England - the chances of them being related are very slim.
Both clutches were incubated in the same medium as they were laid only three weeks apart. The main thing that confuses me is that in both clutches one baby had one bad eye and the other baby is perfect??? I'm still confused - maybe its just coincedence?
