Won't eat his veggies

jflipl Oct 17, 2004 01:15 PM

I been offering greens/veggies and rep-cal pellets the past week but still won't eat em, not even take a bite.
He has a big apetite for crickets, can eat like 20 a feeding (gutloaded of course though)

But I want him to start eating greens/veggies rep-cal pellets.

Should I withold crickets for 2 days and see if he starts eating that?
Any tips?

What type of veggies are you feeding him? Is it just greens or mixed veggies & fruit? How old is he?

I'm currently offering him Mustard greens, alfalfa, carrots, mixed with petcal.

He's like 4 inches from snout to where the tail starts.

A couple things to try: 1: try adding something with red in it like strawberry or red pepper, but just a little though. DB's love red & anything red will get there attention. Also Try it without the petcal, mine do not like petcal in there greens that often. I only put the petcal in once in a while.

Here is a helpful link on whats good/bad to feed your bd.

You can also try to hand feed. Mine didn't eat greens until I waved it infront of her face...she licked it and just ate it. Then (and now) she gobbles her greens first.

You can also try putting something in there that is moving like a silkworm (a wax worm will work too--not too many...one or two max!) Sometimes they ingest the greens by accident and decide that it isn't too bad.

You can also try just giving it time. I had a dragon once who just decided to try them out of the blue. (I guess he figured they were in the tank long enough he might as well see what is up with that.)

I wouldn't with hold crix all together...however, you can feed twice a day (if you aren't already) and give a few crix and a salad, then at the next feeding offer only crickets.

I had a hard time introducing pellets into my girls meals. She would eat around them. Then I made a mixture of frozen veggies, and pellets and spoon some out...they end up all tasting the same, and she went for it. Now she eats them everday (with other stuff of course).

Good luck..I know how frustrating it can be to try and feed these guys the good stuff. (They can be like a child...not willing to try something new).
