New Pics Of Forest...

ForestTime Oct 17, 2004 02:27 PM

Thought I'd post a couple new pics of my boy(s). LOL

He loves my son's bedroom of all places. Thought about putting a UVB light in Trey's room (LOL. He LOVES it in there.

He also has his own pillow on his bed but I think in the second picture he's telling me he wants one on his outside chair too. That is how he flops everytime he lays out there.

The 3rd pic is of me waking him up to take his picture. I think he'd be happier if I quit bugging him just cause he's cute! LOL

"Go away woman!"

Forrest is so silly. It's amazing how much personality these lizards have.

Cool pictures. I have a question for you or anyone... When did you let Forest outside without a leash on him? Our ig would bolt and we would never get him back. We have him for about 7 months and he (I think ) is taming nicely BUT he still wants to run away. What do you think?

I certainly wouldn't allow an ig that small outside unrestricted. They are just too nervous, fast and capable of hiding too easily. Full grown adults generally don't move as fast unless they are spooked (and then look out...) and obviously have a harder time hiding. Just be careful about access to trees (which scream "home" ) and anything else the ig can climb up on and out of your reach...

I don't know what to tell you other than I agree that your ig is so small, I couldn't watch him close enough. The smaller they are, the faster they run.

I was lucky with Forest. He was 7 years old when we got him & he's slow moving. I don't know if it's from the bad diet he was on when we got him but he doesn't climb. I've made him ramps to get up on his bed & he uses his whicker baskets to get on/off his chairs outside.

The first time I did take him out freaked him out (a mail truck went down our dead-end street) & he bolted. I was right next to him but he made it across the street, into the neighbors yard before I could catch him. HE WAS FAST!

Since then, I've made him his own spot out back on our patio (where it's quiet)where I take him to bask everyday. Also if you sit on HIS lawnchair, he WILL chase you off. He's also been known to toss my lizard gloves when I accidentally left them on his chair one day. After he potties, he crawls down, into the FL room & bangs the glass door to be let in.

He's pretty perfect. Never wanders or strays. I was lucky with that. He knows where the door is, where his bed & pillow are & he come there after his sunnings...I just got lucky with Forest.

I wish you success though. Sorry I couldn't help.

I have a three year old, and I even if he weren't in breeding season, I would never, ever take him outside without a leash. Even if I was holding him tight in my hands. He bolted from me once before, and even though he only ran around in a little circle and then jumped into a shrub, I thought I was going to die. I do not know how I would cope if I lost him. I don't know if I'll ever take him out without a leash, maybe when he gets around Forest's age, say seven or eight.

Thank you everyone for your advise. I was asking for the future. I would NEVER let Tiny outside without a leash at his age. He is to skiddish right noe when he is outside. I was hoping that someone would tell me if there was anything special that you have to do so that when he is much older I or my son could let him out. I think I would just keep the leash on him. He doesn't mine it so why take a chance.

Our iguana, Iggi, was about 1 1/2 when we decided to let her on the ground. We take her outside, every day, to dry off in the sun, after her bath. She was used to being outside, so this didn't scare her. We tried a leash one time, and it nearly chocked her to death. She started to alligator roll, and the leash kept tightening around her neck. Anyway, we tried her outside, with all 3 of us around her in case she tried to run to the woods behind our house. She was a good girl, and didn't run away. Today, we take her outside a couple times a day, for sunshine and exercise. It's good for her mental stimulation, too, seeing new things. We ALWAYS closely supervise her when she is outside. She is frightened by motorcyclists, and kids playing basketball in the street. Here is a picture of Iggi in her garden.
