I was wondering if your vet ever came to any conclusions as to what caused the swelling in Pearl???

I had a female with similar swelling a few months ago, but it only lasted a week or so.

My vet was on vacation so it was about 10 days later when we got see him, and the swelling was almost gone.

He put her on a round of Amikacin, and there have not been any further symptoms, but it made me think of your story.

I went back and reread the complete story of Peal, and some of the photos were very similar, but her mouth was not swollen or discolored inside.

Thanks and sorry for your loss

No.....We never did find the cause. He told me that may happen. We did determine that it was not something that would spread to the rest of my snakes. (whew) So.....I guess we learned what it was NOT.

Pearl has not been forgotten. She sure fought a long battle. I never expected such a will to live for so long. When we euthanised her she was under anesthesia for an edoscopy. My Vet called and said things looked so bad inside her he didn`t think she could survive much longer. He seemed to think she had lost her will to live as she didn`t even struggle when he put her to sleep to do the edoscopy. After calling me he just gave her a shot while she was under to put her down.

He then performed the necropsy and took all of the pictures that are posted on her web page. I also scanned in all of the Histopathology reports and posted those as well.

Many people have viewed these pages and no one seems to have an answer as to what caused her illness.

I meant to add a link to her page for the folks that have not seen it.

wow, so sorry to hear about your snake. i cried reading it, i can't imagine having to go through that, i know i would cry a whole lot if that was one of my little ones. it would drive me nuts to not know what was going on.

once again so sorry to hear about your snake, but it was so nice the page that you set up with her with that memorial, if only all animals were lucky enough to have an owner like you that cared so much about their pets.

Thank you Dana. It was very sad to lose her. She fought so hard to live.

Hopefully there will be some knowledge gained and her life will not be wasted.

You did a real nice job on that page for her.

Some of the technical stuff is beyond me, so I wasn't sure if there were ever any clear answers to her illness.

Well as you said at least it wasn’t contagious.

Thanks
