heat source?

DragonRain Oct 17, 2004 05:01 PM

Hello!!

i've heard of people keeping corn snakes in plastic sweater boxes, so i was going to keep my baby corn in one for about a week till i can get her a new aquarium. When i had her in the aquarium (her old one broke and i can't really get anywhere to get a new one till next weekend :/ ) i used an undertank heater on one side of the tank. However, on the bottom of the heater it says to only use it on glass cages. Would the plastic cage melt or something if i used the heater on it ? i'm afraid to try it incase it does melt or something, but my lil girl really needs a heat source! what should i do? What do other people who use this kind of cage use for heat?? Thanks!!!

is to attach them to a ceramic tile of the appropriate size. Then I place the whole thing underneath my tank. This method has at least two advantages: you can raise or lower the tile to increase or decrease the temps, plus you can just move the whole thing to another tank when you are ready (which is not recommended with the ones that you attach to the bottom of the tank with adhesive, if you peel the adhesive off, it can mess up the wiring inside). This would probably work with your plastic container, just make sure that the container is raised a bit off the heat pad.

I'm using one on my baby gopher. I have him in a 'short' 10 gallon size tank with a human heat pad. It has 3 settings. I have it set on low. I think it would be safer on a plastic box vs. the UTH's.

Thanks for replying!!

What if i attached the UTH to a piece of glass and then put the container over that? or would that still possably cause problems from being to close to the plastic? or what if i found my old 5 watt UTH, would that get too hot? oh i dunno, imma just try to keep it really warm in the room for now and try to see if i can find any tile to use tomorrow. Thanks again!

then youve waisted an UTH. once those UTH are stuck to something they aren't suppose to be removed or it will dammage the heater. I know becasue I did that once. If you only need a heater for a few days I would go with the human heat pad. Just set 1/3 of the box on the pad and set on low. you want to be able to provide a temp gradiant so the little guy can have a warm spot or cool spot. keeping the whole room one temp won't give him a choice but i know there are lots of breeders out there that do that.
just my opinion and good luck.
