Nil’s are simply awesome, can wait to see your babies, maybe ill buy some from you? Peoples sees them as cheep monitors, I think they are good investment as they will go up eventually.
One thing is sure they are everything a monitor should be. A mans lizard

JPsShadow Oct 17, 2004 07:51 PM

That female was left in a box at my doorstep. She was a typical gray/blue little nile. She has turned out to be he best nile I have seen.

The male I have with her was a rescue, he came to me as a more gray colored animal as well. he has grown alot and colored up nicely too.

The little ones are growing like weeds and should have awesome yellow colors too.

Niles are great, I enjoy them alot. They enjoy me too usually for a chew toy haha. In my book they are right up there with the others. I have many different monitors and I enjoy my niles as much as the rest.

LOL, that cracked me up. You certainly are right, they are a man's lizard, every monitor geek has to have atleast one man's lizard.

cheers, andrew

Real beautiful monitors. That yellow female (as Steeve pointed out) is stunning. I am always a nut for ornates.

cheers, andrew

JPsShadow Oct 17, 2004 08:10 PM

none of them are ornates.

vcreations Oct 17, 2004 09:44 PM

I love those Niles on the bottom, that is amazing they, shows how much I know. Are those the ones found by your buddys house?

If so, I would like to obtain a couple.

andrew

JPsShadow Oct 17, 2004 10:08 PM

Not sure what you mean found by my buddies house? I got them from a guy on the east coast if thats what ya mean.

I see some every now and again that are similar, especially some ornates. But they differ slightly in pattern and head shape.

jiffypop Oct 17, 2004 07:55 PM

is one of those the one that came from here? Just curious.

JPsShadow Oct 17, 2004 08:12 PM

The male came from john

kap10cavy Oct 17, 2004 08:25 PM

You might have mentioned this before, if you did I missed it.
Are those 2 critters breeding for you?

JPsShadow Oct 17, 2004 09:52 PM

Yeah as seen in the pictures they are breeding.

I bred an ornate with a common nile a few years back, but ruined the eggs. I ended up with all full term dead babies. I then moved out my niles to work with everything else I have. Then I got this female dropped off at my door, and later a chance to get the male. Low and behold here I am with a pair of niles once again.

This time no matter what i aint given up the pair.

kap10cavy Oct 17, 2004 10:00 PM

Well, my wife aint exactly fond of niles. Reputation problem ya know, but, if you ever get some babies, I just might have to drive down and buy 1 or 2.
Good luck with them.

Just bring her down, and we will let her get acquinted to all of my monitors. That will break anyone in haha

My girl was not thinking much of the niles either, other then they are pretty. So I let one of the babies latch onto her. Now she , well still thinks they are pretty.

jiffypop Oct 17, 2004 09:33 PM

Then it originated here. John took it home after it had been here for many months. I'm glad to see it all grown up.

JPsShadow Oct 17, 2004 09:49 PM

He still has alot of growing to do, but as you can see he is doing well for himself. Gets food, has a good home, gets some action when he wants. what more could he ask for haha

odatriad Oct 17, 2004 08:33 PM

Wow Jody,

That is an exceptional individual(female). I have never seen a nile that colorful before.. Its coloration reminds me of some of the Komodos here in the US whose ancestors originate from Flores... Gorgeous animals Jody, have you gotten eggs from them, or just copulation? Cheers, have a good one...

bob

JPsShadow Oct 17, 2004 10:00 PM

They have copulated in the past but nothing came of it. This time everything seems to be falling into the right order. With any luck I will get to see some little yellow babies.

The yellow female has rasied beaded type scalation. Although her head and facial pattern are the same as the male. He is a tanzanian nile. I haven't a clue what she is. My chances of finding a male like her are probly slim to none. I think the yellow the male has will compliment her well enough.

Glad to see I can spark some interest out of you all for niles.

jobi Oct 18, 2004 12:02 AM

If one monitor can spark interest is has to be the all mighty nil.
This amazing creature taken for granted and despised buy most varanophil's, fully deserving to be glorified by modern Herpetoculture, its peoples like you and me that will eventually cross breed out breed and produce outstanding gems. Real jewels if you ask me. Also what you said about the beaded scales, that’s what stroked me with the last trio I obtained, they where shipped out of Tanzania but may have been trapped in Zimbabwe, however the exporter is reluctant to specify.

JPsShadow Oct 18, 2004 12:38 PM

I seem to have the same trouble if I try to look into locality. i tried to find out where my little ones came out of.

As for my beaded type yellow girl, I wouldn't have a clue how to trace her back. The only thing I can trace her to is a cardboard box.

LizardMom Oct 17, 2004 11:28 PM

That young one is marvelously marked. Why does something so beautiful have to be so ferocious? It's kind of funny when they're so young, but not funny at all when they get big. I've sort of resigned myself that, beautiful or not, they're too much of a handful for me. But I still love to look at them. You've got some beauties!

Leslie

JPsShadow Oct 18, 2004 12:36 PM

If I really wanted to work hard at it, I know I could get these guys calm and easy to handle. I just don't have the time nor care if they act up on me.

The adults I have are mor hissing, whippers then biters. With any luck I will have some more little ones biting me soon. haha

LizardMom Oct 20, 2004 12:22 AM

I'm just not thrilled with the idea of getting bit by something with teeth that sharp. And I haven't figured out how you teach them the difference between pink pinkies and pink fingers! And I've heard the stories about toe attacks!

See, I've got this back problem...a wide yellow stripe that runs from the base of my skull down to my tailbone...

That I got a good friend years ago from a place in Florida, it had 4 rows of yellow spots and a bad attitude, shes changed hands a few times but in another good friends collection now. Shes now about 3.5 ft and still a great eater, although someone who had her in between kept her cold and in a sea of dead rotten mice she buried after puking, she was covered in bacteria and sickly when returned, but recovered fast. Keep up the nice pics.

JPsShadow Oct 18, 2004 12:33 PM

I hate hearing stories like that, bnut I have heard worse and seen it myself over the years. I always get the gut sinking feeling everytime though. It saddens me the way some people treat them.

They are alive and should be kept that way. Not a toy to get tossed aside when you'r done playing.
