One of my babies hasn't pooped in about two weeks

lisa_cristin Oct 17, 2004 07:14 PM

Hey all, my geckos are all doing good except one. My hypo hasn't pooped in almost two weeks, yet she eat the most of all of them (about 20-25 mealworms every two days). Her stomach does look a bit bloated as well. I have also caught her trying to poop, I think. I know it's been talked about before I just couldn't find it in the archives, but how do you go about giving a warm water bath? I just don't want to put her into shock.

If the bath doesn't help things is there anything eles I could try before going to a vet (I refuse to go to the one in town and the closest one is two hours away)? Could it possibly be some sort of parasites? Could she be impacted because she mostly only eats mealworms? There is a small chance of impaction from sand because it is in the cracks of the tiles, however, I have never seen her eat it and there is a dish of calcium available. Thanks for any info,

Lisa

I would say constipation although two weeks seems like a while.
Warm up water to about the temp to wash a baby in. Gently set the gecko in the water and let em soak. Make sure it isn't deep enough for her to drown. If this doesn't help I would drive the two hours to the vet just in case. I know I wouldn't want to lose a hypo..lol. Good luck.

Should she poop right away or in a day or so? If she doesn't poop would you recommend feeding her more or less before seeing the vet?

I have also heard that a couple of waxworms might loosen her stool, maybe I'll give that a try next.

Thanks again,
Lisa

Hey lisa, tis me, I had the same problem with my girl. It seems to happens to the one who just eat lots

I put mine in a rubber maid tub, put paper towel so she wouldn't slip and warm water, i had to keep refilling it with warm water. Mine pooped almost instantly when i put her in usually it took less than 10 mins.
Do it once a week for a few weeks and it should clear up. It took me about a month of doing the baths and now she's back to being regular
Keep the humidity higher perhaps in their humid hides and/or feed smaller prey items.
Good luck and don't stress too much :D

Hey Snarks, she didn't poop right away . I kept her in for about 25 minutes and kept putting in more warm water. Oh well I'll give it a try again tommorow.

Thanks,
Lisa

Hey don't worry too much. I had to soak Mr. Dude for 3 days running, but then, boy, did he ever go, and stink.....whooooo!! Then had to do it again a few days later, but only took 1 soak that time. And I still have to watch him close. In fact i only saw one poop yesterday and I am pretty sure it was Miz. Liz. so Dude is probably getting another soak if nothing by tomorrow. And I have NO sand at all in my tank. He's just needy, but I love him.
