Getting my burm to eat rats?????

ajd Oct 17, 2004 08:13 PM

I at the current moment have tried a whole bunch of tricks to get my burm to switch from mice to rats. I have tried scenting the rat and enclosing the rat with the snake ect... I am trying all of this with Frozen thawed rats and mice. I would like to avoid using live at all costs. just because I had a hell of a time getting this particular to eat frozen in the first place

Please help by posting some of the tricks and idead you have

Thank you

AJ Dekker

mine was fed mice by the previous owner and it was alot of work to get him to eat a rat....try a fresh killed mine finally took that...now he eats with no problem.
how long has it been?

How are you presenting the prey? Warmed? How do you warm it?
Have you tried teasing the snake? ( something I would not try with any of mine )
My experience though limited,is a feeding response such that I should toss in my prey, and run like hell.
There is no hesitation on my burms part on feeding.
Also keep in mind...hunger is a great motivation. Skip a week or so, it wont hurt the snake. Hell, they do it themselves at times for months.
Then try again...hell hath no fury like a hungry burm.Dont give up..sooner or later your burm will take the frozen rat.

i think hunger is what finally got mine...one day i just tossed it in and he ate it like he had been eating it his whole life....unless the snakes is already very thin, i wouldnt worry he will eat it eventually
