hey guys,

i think my collared might be impacted... but i'm not sure.. how can you tell ? i fed him yesterday and he's big and fat but he's not really active and he's been, what looks like... sleeping and i poked him and such and he would barely open his eyes and then went back to "sleep", any suggestions ?

well the one time that i had an impaction, ivan always looked like she had to poo. like most of the time her tail was positioned in the special pooing way. she also had twitching toes on her back feet and she would poo just a teeny tiny amount and continue to push. that was my experience and i am sure that there are other signs.
however, what was the weather like today? was there a change, like overcast, temps went down? because regardless of what i do, they always notice weather changes and become lazy. i have a male who is very calm and whenever he is basking, he gets what my mom calls the "stoner look". his eyes are little slits and he just sits there and soaks up the light. i could poke him and he would not move.
try soaking him in warm water for like 10 minutes. that can help their bowels. if you are really concerned, take him to the vet because they can tell you for sure

Hi Shadow, does not mean hes impacted just because he looks fat, sometimes they puff like that before they shed, helps to break the skin, so it can shed off.

BUT... here is an excellent article done by a buddy on the bearded dragon forum, on IMPACTIONS, minor and major, and what signs to look for and how to handle each.

Hope it helps, and sure hope your guy is fine, let us know how ya make out okay!

acctually today it was really raining and cloudy and overcast.. so maybe that is what's wrong with him.. his eyes are like little slits and when I poke him he doesn't do anything.. so hopefully you're right about the wheather situation.. maybe he's just like this cause of the wheather... I've soaked him and put him to sleep right now, I'll see how he is in the morning and let you guys know. Thanks for all your help! and to Eve for the article!
