Feeding Costs of new African Sulcata

TallTex Oct 18, 2004 12:28 AM

Hello all,

I am currently considering purchasing a baby African Spurred tortoise and I am interested in finding out roughly how much it costs to feed one of these tortoises annually. I realize that as a baby, cost will likely be very minimal but I am more concerned with later years. I don't want to jump into this and find out five years down the road that I can't afford to continue feeding my pet. Any advice and information that anyone has is most welcome.

Thanks for your help!

Have you thought of adopting a sulcata instead of buying one? There are many sulcatas from yearling to sub-adult that need a home.

It's probably cheapest if you would buy seeds from places like turtlecafe.com or turtlestuff.com and grow grasses and weeds for you tort. This way your tort can just graze but if you are to buy greens from the store, you're looking to spend $10-$20 a week to feed a sub-adult sometimes more.
