Salamanders......eggs or larvae

iloveamphibes Oct 18, 2004 12:56 AM

Hello everybody! I am pretty new to keeping newts and salamanders as pets.....but what I have experienced so far is great! I have a 15 gallon set up with 6 Oregon newts and they are a lot of fun! So, now I really want to start keeping salamanders too! I have and read a lot about bait shops selling salamander eggs for bait. If that is true......is it easy to keep and hatch them? What species is usually used? I hope someone out there can offer some advice! I live in southern Wisconsin. I am very serious about keeping salamanders......preferrably tigers. Thanks ahead of time......and thanks for this forum!

Ive never heard of baitshops selling salamander eggs, but if they do, you'll need this:

Usually they sell "waterdogs" which are tiger sal larvae. In this case, you'll need this:
