Help with my new crested

robdamanii Oct 18, 2004 08:51 AM

Hey folks,

I just got my first crested (and first gecko of any kind to be exact). She's about a year old female, and I've got her in a 20 tall tank with some leaves and some driftwood for climbing.

I've had her for about 4 days now, and all she's eaten are a few bites of banana and a single little bite of fresh apple. She's shown no interest in crickets, baby food, crested food, fresh kiwi, blueberry, etc etc.

I've noticed that apparently my apartment is quite dry, and since I heavily misted the tank last night and this morning, she's been much more active.

Is there generally a time between putting a crested in a new habitat and transporting them (she went 300 miles in a car a day ago) that they generally don't like to eat?

From what I've read, she should get about 50% fruit and baby food, and 50% crickets. Is this correct?

Any suggestions folks?

Your letter looks very much like one below so I posted the same reply. a 300 mile road trip is a tough thing on anyone .. The quieter the house or area the cage is in the quicker youll see it begin to aclimate itself.

Whenever I change my cages they tend to go a few days without eating.
I rarely see my cresteds eat the babyfood or crested gecko diet. They much prefer to slip out when its perfectly quiet.Theres a good chance thats exactly what yours is doing .The amounts of babyfood and CGD diet they eat seems very small compared to the number of crickets they will sock away. The babyfood /CGD is more compact than a live cricket Im assuming. There is the small possibilty that she hasnt found the food. Too safeguard on that put a couple of small dishes around the cage to be found.

Cool, sounds good to me.

Now a question on the crickets...

Since there's substantial things in the tank for them to hide in, around, and under, should I just put about half a dozen in there and let her go after them at her leisure? I thought I read that leaving live crickets in there will just stress the gecko.

Thanks for the help BTW, I've been getting lots of different responses from lots of different people.
